jupiter 4 sounds better out the headphone jack?

on a few occasions i've used a stereo cable out the headphone jack and i could swear the sound is better out the headphone jack than the main outs.

anybody care to try this and tell me if im imagining it?

so my questions are, what would be considered a later model (starting from what serial # approx)?

and, can i bypass the capacitors somehow to get the headphone jack sound, and maintain my volume control pot?
